New Delhi, April 19: To reduce dependency(निर्भरता) on international launching vehicles, the Indian
Space Research Organisation has developed a ‘game-changer’ rocket (launching vehicle) which is capable of launching a four-tonne class of satellites. ISRO is planning to undertake the first of its kind mission next month. With its successful test launch, ISRO will become capable of launching heavier satellites for which it earlier depended on international agencies. With this, ISRO can do all the launches within the country. The first of its kind mission is scheduled to take place next month while it plans to undertake the second developmental flight within a year. At present, ISRO launch vehicles have the capability to launch satellites up to 2.2 tonne and cannot launch the heavier ones. It has to depend on international launchers to orbit satellites to launch satellites heavier than 2.2 tonne.
ISRO Chairman A S Kiran Kumar said that the developmental flight of a ‘game-changer’ rocket (launching vehicle) capable of launching a four-tonne class of satellites from Sriharikota spaceport will take place in the coming month. He said that ISRO views operationalisation of this rocket as a “game-changer” mission.

About GSLV-Mk III-D1:

The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III is intended(इरादा) to launch satellites into geostationary orbit (भूभौतिकीय कक्षा) and as a launcher for an Indian crew vehicle.
The GSLV-III features an Indian cryogenic third stage and a higher payload capacity (भार क्षमता) than the current GSLV.
The satellite would carry Ka and Ku-band payload along with a Geostationary Radiation Spectrometer (GRASP) payload to monitor and study the nature of the charged particles and influence of space radiation on spacecraft and electronic components.
It would also employ advanced spacecraft technologies including bus subsystem experiments in electrical propulsion system, indigenous Li-ion battery and indigenous bus bars for power distribution, among others.
The ISRO Chairman mentioned in his statement that ISRO is all set to achieve the milestone next month. “Next month, we have scheduled the launch of GSLV-Mk III-D1”, Kumar told PTI.  The GSLV-Mk III-D1 launcher would carry GSAT-19 satellite which has a mass of 3200 kg. “By the time two developmental flights are over, we will be working towards making more launches so that it (GSLV-Mk III) becomes operational”, he added. “Once we build our own four-tonne capacity, we will be able to significantly reduce our launch from outside; then we are also looking at building satellites within that four-tonne capacity so that you can do all the launches within the country,” Kiran Kumar further added.
On Monday, ISRO Chairman said that ISRO plans to forge a joint venture with an industrial consortium to build rockets. He stated that the agency is using a significant amount of things from the industry. “If you take launch vehicles (space rockets), 80 per cent of our work, we do with the industry (which are making space-related equipment) today,” Kumar told PTI in an interview.
