Understanding what LEMOA means for military nitty gritties on ground

India and US have signed the LEMOA or Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Understanding in August last year.  The first time LEMOA came into effect was at the Indo US Joint Exercise in Chaubatia in Uttarakhand last year in September. Indian and US troops carry out ambush in the IED trail. They negotiate mines and booby traps together. At Udhabhays Military Drill in Chaubatia in Uttarakhand last
year. This is the first time LEMOA came into effect.

It became easier for troops to fly to the nearest airbase, rather than fly to a civil airfield and then travel by road.

They practice the long range shooting to acqaint with each others procedures.

The Reflex shooting enhances the interoperability of the troops. This is a cliff assault demonstration where Indian and US troops carry out mountain warfare in the harshest of terrains. The casualties are evacuated using a ropeway.

They showcase each others weapons including assault rifles, night vision devices and personal gear.

Finally the exercise culminates in a grand validation ceremony where troops are inducted and deinducted using choppers.LEMOA is an agreement that comes into force on these ocassions and does not imply US that US troops will be based on Indian soil.

It is an enabling provision approved on case to case basis to provide transportation, petroleum, oils, lubricants, clothing, communication services, medical services, storage services to each other.
