Lucknow-born Sindh governor passes away

Lucknow-born Sindh governor passes away The ailing governor of Pakistan's Sindh province, Justice (retd) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui, today passed away at the age of 79.  The Lucknow-born former chief justice was sworn in as the 31st Governor of Sindh in November last year after the federal government decided to end the 14-year tenure of former Sindh governor Ishratul Ibad. Siddiqui
suffered poor health and had been hospitalised soon after his appointment due to a chest infection and breathing problems. He was discharged from the hospital over a month later after an improvement in health.  Born in Lucknow on Dec 1, 1938, Siddiqui's family migrated to then East Pakistan. He acquired his early education from Dhaka and then moved to Karachi, then capital of Pakistan.

Siddiqui gained respect and prominence in late 1999 when during the tenure of military dictator Lt Gen (retd) Pervaz Musharraf he refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order, an emergency and extra constitutional order which suspended the constitution of the country and preferred to resign from his post.
