BBMP to form committee to regulate trade licences

BBMP to form committee to regulate trade licences Bengaluru: After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged a mismatch between the number of Bescom connections given to commercial establishments and trade licences issued by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP), the civic Council, which met on Saturday, passed a resolution to form a committee for regulation of trade licences. Several
councillors felt that the recent High Court order seeking all commercial establishments in residential areas be shut down had put several citizens to hardship. “They have sought a committee through which their sentiments can be conveyed to the government,” said BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad.

Mr. Prasad said that the AAP had not taken into account zonal regulations while making its claim. “As per zonal regulations, if someone puts up a shop in a residential area, we cannot give them a licence. If we give licences to everybody, all residential areas in Bengaluru will become commercial areas,” he added.
