B S Mohammed Yasin appointed new intelligence chief THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has appointed ADGP B S Mohammed Yasin as the new state intelligence chief, shifting R Sreelekha who was appointed as the intelligence chief immediately after the LDF government took over in May. Sreelekha has been appointed as ADGP (prisons and correctional services) replacing Anil Kant,
who has been appointed as the ADGP (headquarters). The incumbent DGP (headquarters) Rajesh Dewan will be the ADGP (north zone) replacing K Sudesh Kumar, who has been appointed as the ADGP (armed police battalion).
ADGP Tomin J Thachankary, who was out of police force for a long time and is currently holding the charge of managing director of Kerala Books and Publications Society, will be the new chief of coastal police. K Padmakumar, who was also moved out of police by the LDF government and was appointed as chief vigilance officer of Kerala State Electricity Board, has been brought back to the police force as the director of Kerala Police Academy in Thrissur. Nitin Agarwal who was in charge of armed police battalion has been appointed as the chief of crime branch, a post which had been lying vacant and was being held by Rajesh Dewan as additional charge. Another significant change in the police shuffle on Monday was the transfer of S Sreejith as IG (Ernakulam range) who was appointed to the post by the new government shifting the then IG Mahipal Yadav, in connection with the Jisha murder probe in Perumbavoor. Sreejith had faced several allegations while at Ernakulam after his appointment, and Trikkakara MLA P T Thomas had raised an alleged nexus between the police and goons in Kochi.
P Vijayan, who was promoted to the post of IG on January 1 this year, has been appointed in place of Sreejith, who along with Mahipal Yadav who was serving as IG (training) has been appointed to crime branch, an agency that was short of officers at the top level. Balram Kumar Upadhyaya, who was holding the charge of IG (crimes) has been posted as managing director of Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation (KPHCC) on deputation.
Shafeen Ahemad, who after promotion as DIG was appointed as DIG (armed police battalion), has been posted as DIG (administration) at police headquarters.
S Rajendran, who had been in the news for conducting search at the residence of additional chief secretary (finance) K M Abraham as SP, special cell, vigilance, has been transferred. R Nishanthini, who was appointed as SP, special investigation unit in the capital, has been appointed in place of Rajendran as SP, special cell of vigilance.
