Tourism, healthcare & infra key sectors with biggest potential to create jobs: CII report

Tourism, healthcare & infra key sectors with biggest potential to create jobs: CII report As concerns around investments and job creation in the economy continue to rise, a report released by CII pointed that tourism, healthcare and natural infrastructure in the form of renewable energy, water and sanitation are the three key sectors which have the biggest potential to create jobs in India in the next
few years. The report, titled ‘Future of Jobs in India’, said that while the systems approach will accelerate widespread job creation as well as boost GDP growth by 2-3 per cent, its absence will create scenarios of enclaves of prosperity with increasing inequality and growing dissatisfaction in India.Pointing that job creation must be at the centre of all policy-making, the report said that the government should address the issue of security and flexibility of jobs in the informal sector.
Speaking about the report, CII president Naushad Forbes told The Indian Express that, “While jobs are mostly getting created in the informal sector, protectionism and flexibility of such jobs is critical and the policy should take care of labour laws and other related issues. Even the issue of security should be addressed.”
Answering to a query on incidents of job losses in certain informal sectors over the last one month following demonitisation, Forbes said, “Most of these job losses are in the informal sector and the CII report looks to address this issue. If those working in such sectors are protected and have security of job through law and policy, there would not have been job losses just like in the formal sector which did not witness job loss following demonetisation.”
