Ravichandran Ashwin wins Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy

Ravichandran Ashwin wins Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy after being named ICC Cricketer of the Year and Test cricketer of the Year  Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian off spinner, was named the Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2016 by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 22.  Ashwin has become the third India player after Rahul Dravid (2004) and
Sachin Tendulkar (2010) and 12th player overall to win the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy is a cricket trophy awarded annually by the International Cricket Council to its chosen world player of the Year.
iv. The player awards were judged by a voting academy, which was entirely independent of the ICC and in which members of the media from all the 10 Test playing countries were eligible to vote. The voting period ran from 14 September 2015 to 20 September 2016.
v. During the voting period, the 30-year-old player from Chennai played eight Tests in which he took 48 wickets and scored 336 runs. Ashwin also claimed 27 wickets in 19 T20Is.
