 Over 18,000 students create world record at International Gita Mahotsav A five-day long International Gita Jayanti Mahotsav was organised at Kurukshetra in Haryana earlier this month. Gita is a religious scripture that teaches us lessons of humanity. It takes us away from the darkness of despondency, shows us the right direction of living life and fills us with renewed vigour. The
international Gita Jayanti Mahotsav was organised in Kurukshetra with the aim to spread the teachings of Gita worldwide. It was a 5-day Mahotsav that began on 6th December. On its second day 7th December, Kurukshetra revereberated with the verses of Gita as over 18,000 students joined each other in reciting them at the Mahotsav.

18,473 school students recited 18 verses from 18 chapters of Gita in 7 minutes 29 seconds entering the Guinness Book of World Records.

In a bid to help students imbibe the essence of Gita they were made to understand the meaning of the 18 versus and handed over Hindi translations of the scripture.

Haryana govt had invited representatives from all districts across the country to the Mahotsav who attended the festival dressed in their traditional wear making the occasion a cultural celebration too.

They brought with them their home soil with which a grand statue of Lord Krishna will be prepared at Kurukshetra which would be a symbol of unity and brotherhood.

On the occasion, Haryana Chief Minister awarded Geetika, a student from Rajasthan 51,000 rupees as she stunned the audience by reciting all the 700 Gita shlokas and answering all questions on Gita correctly.

Prize money of 5 lakh rupees was announced for other participating students. These students are spreading the message of Gita to society on karma, knowledge, and devotion.
