National Miners Day celebrated

National-Miners-Day-celebrated The nearly 100 000 men and women in the aggregates industry were recognised by the NSSGA for National Miners Day. The day was designated by Congress in 2009 to honour the contributions and sacrifices of miners both past and present. The great achievements of the quarrying industry are jointly recognised by the NSSGA and MSHA. “The people in this industry
produce the building blocks of America, and this workforce is the aggregates industry’s most precious resource,” said Michael W. Johnson, NSSGA president and CEO. “We are proud to celebrate the end of the safest year in the history of the industry.” “Many of us have seen the consequences of the continuing sacrifices made by miners and their families. But we also have seen the progress that has been made in miner safety and health, and we share the pride of miners and the mining industry who have worked to make these steady and important improvements,” wrote MSHA Administrator Joe Main on MSHA’s website.
