Huge ‘dead zone’ found in Bay of Bengal  A 60,000 square kilometres‘ dead zone’ was founded in the Bay of Bengal by Researchers from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research’s National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa. This zone contains little or no oxygen and supports microbial processes that remove vast amounts of nitrogen from the ocean.  Because this area hosts microbial
communities that can remove nitrogen.
