Trevor Goddard passes away, aged 85

Trevor Goddard passes away, aged 85 , Trevor Goddard, the former South African all rounder, passed away aged 85 on Friday (November 25) after being in poor health for some time. Trevor played 41 Tests for South Africa in a career spanning more than 15 years. He had scored 2516 runs and picked up 123 wickets. In 179 first-class matches, he hit 26 centuries to score more than 11,000 runs and
ended up picking 534 wickets that included 24 five-wicket hauls.

"Trevor was a humble man who served the game with great distinction both on and off the field," Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said. "On behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest condolences to his family, his friends and his cricketing colleagues."

Trevor was South Africa's skipper during their 1963-64 tour to Australia, which they drew 1-1. His highest score of 112, which is also his only Test century, was scored against England in 1965 and his best figures of 6 for 53 was achieved in 1966-67 during South Africa's first ever Test win against Australia on home soil.

He played his final Test in 1970 against Australia as he was dropped from the squad after making himself unavailable for the England tour.
