Hindustan Times does not have any independent confirmation about the date of release of admit card for the exam. The SSC recruitment notification had said that the admit cards for the exam, indicating the timetable and venues, will be issued about two weeks before the date of examination.

The notification further said that if a candidate does not receive the admit cards a week before the examination, they must immediately contact the concerned regional/sub-regional office(s) of the commission with details such as registration id, transaction id of SBI, copy of challan etc for obtaining the admission certificates. Failure to do so will deprive them of any claim for consideration.

The admit card will not be sent to the candidates by post. Candidates must carry their admit card to the examination centre. They must also carry at least one original photo ID such as voter’s ID, Aadhaar card, driving license, ID cards issued by the government or other offices where the candidates may be working. Candidates without such ID cards will not be allowed inside the exam halls/venues.

Candidates must also carry three passport size photographs for affixing it in the commission’s copy of admission certificate in the presence of invigilator if required. Candidates not carrying photographs will not be allowed to take the examination. They are advised to keep 10 copies of the same photograph, which was uploaded/affixed in the application form, with them till the completion of the entire examination process.

Candidates should reach the examination venue on time. Entry to the examination venue will not be allowed after 9.30am in the morning shift and after 1.30pm in the afternoon shift.

Exam scheme

The exam will be of 200 marks, two hours duration and of objective nature. The candidates will get questions of 50 marks on general intelligence and reasoning, 50 marks on general awareness and 100 marks on general engineering (civil and structural) or general engineering (electrical) or general engineering (mechanical).

In the general engineering section, candidates will be required to attempt only the part as opted by them during filling of the application form. Candidates will lose 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.


Candidates who clear the computer-based examination (Paper-I) will be called for the conventional type or written examination (Paper-II).
