Senior Odisha Cong leader Lulu Mohapatra passes away

Gurgaon: Senior Congress leader of Odisha, Lalatendu (Lulu) Bidyadhar Mohapatra, passed away at a private hospital in Gurgaon tonight. He was 52. Mohapatra was admitted to the ICU of Medanta Hospital after he sustained a brain stroke with multi-organ failure. The doctors despite all efforts could not save his life as he passed away at 10.14 PM. Mohapatra’s younger brother Lalitendu Mohapatra informed about his
brother’s death to the media later. After undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi for over a month, he was recently shifted to Medanta Hospital where he breathed his last.

Born on February 14, 1964, Mohapatra was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Brahmagiri Assembly constituency in the year 1995, 2000 and 2004.

He completed his graduation from BJB College and held the position of vice-president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) from 2004 to 2009.

Apart from this, he was the Joint Secretary of National Students Union of India (NSUI), Odisha in 1983, General Secretary of NSUI, Odisha in 1985, president of NSUI, Odisha in 1987, president of Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress in 1996, member of the Senate of Utkal University and the president Odisha Students Congress from 1987 to 1996, working member of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) in 2000. Besides, he was the OPCC vice president from 2009 to 2014.

Several political leaders including Opposition chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati, former OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik, minister Pushpendra Singhdeo, former Congress MP Srikant Jena, Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty, PCC spokesperson Ganeswar Behera and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda have expressed  profound grief over the sad demise of Mohapatra.
