by the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF).  According to MSSRF, these types of plants are important in the area where salinisation (salt content in soil and water) of land is high.
iv. Halophytes tolerate salinity and could grow in saline affected regions also.
v. The seeds of these plants contain high oil (30 per cent) and protein (35 per cent) like that in soyabeans and other oilseed crops and the salt content is less than 3 per cent.
vi. Eminent agriculture scientist and MSSRF founder, Prof M S Swaminathan said that the salt-tolerant plant garden is the first such garden in the world and could be called a global garden, and will help in various anticipatory research.
