Rajiv Gandhi assassin Nalini Sriharan’s book released

CHENNAI: Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict Nalini Sriharan's autobiographical account 'Rajiv Murder: Hidden Truths and Priyanka-Nalini Meeting' was released in the city on Thursday. The book is Nalini's account of her life with her husband Sriharan, the circumstances which led to her involvement in the case, and the hardships she underwent during and after the trial. Priyanka Gandhi's meeting with
her in the Vellore Central Prison in 2008 is also described in the book from Nalini's point of view. The book has been compiled and penned by journalist and writer Pa Ekalaivan.
Releasing the book, MDMK founder Vaiko said it should be translated into other languages and reach all the nations where Tamil speaking people live. "The book has all the qualities for being made into a movie. Just like Vetrimaaran's Visaranai, this book too, if made into a movie, will gain international acclaim," Vaiko said.Receiving the first copy of the book, Thol Thirumavalavan, president of VCK, said that the book confirmed three things, "Ekalaivan is a fine writer, the seven people accused in the case were innocent and state violence is cruel."
Speaking at the event, Seeman, coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi, said Nalini's account of prison life was comparable to Henri Charriere's novel Papillon. "The book is so gripping that even though we know the turn of events narrated in it, we want the people in it to escape the fate that awaits them," he said.
