Bhubaneswar bags third spot in World Smart City Awards 2016

Bhubaneswar bags third spot in World Smart City Awards 2016, Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar came on as the second runners up in the World Smart City Expo Awards 2016 held at Barcelona on Wednesday, city Mayor AN Jena told newsmen here. The awards were selected under many categories after an unprecedented number of entries this year. The cities were shortlisted based on their cutting edge
technologies for resolving urban challenges and improving life of citizens.

bhubaneswarBhubaneswar was selected as a finalist along with five others under the category of Innovative Global South Award.

While Kenya’s capital Nairobi was awarded the winner in the category two cities from India notably Bhubaneswar and Chennai were the finalists.

The city had already won the best smart city award in the country earlier this year.

The city administration had proposed the a model for developing and achieving social equity by placing children at the centre of its transformation building upon the New Urban Agenda’s three legged approach-local fiscal systems, urban planning, and basic services and infrastructure.

As many as 250 cities from 45 different countries took part in the Smart Smart City Congress and winners along with finalists were categorised under three groups namely City Award, Project Award and Innovative Global South Award.

It is noteworthy to mention, Bhubaneswar has become one of the most leading destinations for doing business, investment, innovation across the country and world wide. This award will further boost the city’s challenge to become a model city.
