Virat Kohli hits 26th ODI hundred, behind Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya now

Virat Kohli led India’s reply to New Zealand’s 285 runs with an unbeaten 154. This is his 26th ODI century, which makes him the fourth highest in the all time century list in the format. Kohli made the total in 134 balls, smashing 13 fours and 1 six in the process. This is also the highest score by any batsman in an ODI match at Mohali. He surpassed MS Dhoni’s 139 against Australia in 2013. Amongst
the all-time highest century-scorers Kohli is only behind Sanath Jayasuriya (28), Ricky Ponting (30) and Sachin Tendulkar (49). Kohli, along with ODI skipper MS Dhoni put up a 151 run partnership for the third wicket. Dhoni himself became only the fourth Indian batsman and third wicket-keeper outright to have crossed 9,000 career runs in ODIs.
Virat Kohli also holds the record for the fastest ODI century ever scored by an Indian batsman that he achieved in a whirlwind innings of 100 in just 52 balls against Australia.
With this victory, India take a 2-1 lead over New Zealand in the five-match ODI series. India need to win the series 4-1 at least to move up the ICC ODI rankings.
India’s five-match ODI series against New Zealand was preceded by a three-match Test series. Kohli, who is the Test skipper, led India to a 3-0 whitewash over the visitors. Because of this, India went top of the ICC Test rankings and Kohli received the Test mace. In the third Test, Kohli became the first Indian Test captain to score two double centuries.
