Ranji Trophy 2016-17: Record Partnership From Maharashtra's Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne

Maharashtra batsmen Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne made history on Friday as they added an unbeaten 594 runs against Delhi in their second round fixture of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17. Their marathon stand for the third wicket is now the highest partnership in the Ranji history. The duo missed missed the highest partnership for any wicket in all of first-class cricket by just 30 runs as
Maharashtra declared their first innings at 635/2 on Day 2 of the match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Their record partnership has now surpassed the 577-run stand set by Vijay Hazare and Gul Mohammed for Baroda against Holkar during the 1946-47 Ranji season.
It is also the second-highest partnership in first-class cricket, behind only the 624-run stand that Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene added in a Test match against South Africa.
This was Gugale's first match as the captain of Maharashtra and he was unbeaten on 351 and Bawne was batting on 258 when they decided to declare the innings.
Gugale faced 521 deliveries and hit 37 fours and five sixes while Bawne played 500 balls during his knock hitting 18 fours and two sixes.
