U.S. Tamil Sangam honours Subramaniam Swamy with ‘Tamil Ratna’ award

U.S. Tamil Sangam in New York has honoured senior BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy with the ‘Tamil Ratna’ award, surprising millions back home in India who are aware that Swamy is not so ‘great’ when it comes to written/spoken Tamil. Swamy is on tour to U.S.A. when he was honoured in New York at a function organized by U.S. Tamil Sangam with the ‘Tamil Ratna’ award. Organizers
say that the award was bestowed on wamy for his crusade against corruption in public life and fighting for bringing transparency in administrative procedures of India.
Oscar-award winning music director A.R. Rahman and director Bharathiraaja had been the recipients of the award in the past. However, back home in India, millions of Tamils can’t help wondering as to what was the yardstick followed by the organizers in bestowing ‘Tamil Ratna’ on Swamy as he was never fluent in spoken/written Tamil.
