The festival of Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated across the country on Tuesday. Muslims offer special prayers in the masjid while markets are decorated for the occasion. The festival symbolises and strengthens the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity among people. President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-President Hamid Ansari has greeted the people on the eve of Eid-ul Zuha. The
President expressed hope that the festival will strengthen the efforts of the people to enhance universal brotherhood, peace and harmony in the society.
Vice-President Hamid Ansari said that the festival highlights the virtues of sacrifice and compassion in our lives and inspires us to inculcate the spirit of sacrifice, sympathy and brotherhood in our society.
Considered one of the holiest festivals in Islam marking the end of Hajj,it also literally translates to 'festival of the sacrifice', referring to the story of Ibrahim who was ready to sacrifice the life of his son at the command of Allah.
