NAGPUR: Maharashtra government has declared its teachers award for 2015-16 academic session under various categories. The award named differently and recognize efforts made by teachers in schools focusing on tribal students, teachers in remote areas and teachers who have shown exemplary teaching capabilities regardless of their being in urban or rural areas. Nagpur's Shubra Roy, teacher at
Somalwar High School (Ramdaspeth branch) has been awarded the prestigious 'Adarsh Shikshak Puraskar' (Ideal Teacher Award). This award is at top of the pecking order in list of awards given by the Education Department. Roy has been teaching for over two decades and has left a major impact on students. Roy had been the coordinator for TOI Nagpur's school student page called 'School Buzz', and under her supervision students brought out a professional looking page. Roy, and English teacher, uses both traditional and innovative teaching methodology. While she was unavailable for comment, her colleagues said that the 'interactive' approach of her ensures that students retain whatever is being taught in school. The other teacher from Nagpur city to win the award is Vandana Badwaik (Secondary Teachers Award category).
While these two are from the city, there are another two from rural areas in the district. Mangala Dhangare from Umrer taluka (Primary Teachers Award Category), Govinda Dhale from Deolapar village (Secondary Teachers Award Category). The awards are presented to teachers at a Grand function in Mumbai on September 5 every year. However, this year that day also happened to be Ganesh Chaturthi, a major festival in Maharashtra, hence the government has decided to postpone the function for another 10 days.
