Centre's drive against Dengue and Chikungunya

Centre says all-out assistance being provided to the states affected by Dengue and Chikungunya; Union Health Minister JP Nadda calls upon states to take preventive steps at their level against the deadly diseases which claimed 25 lives in Delhi, 9 in Cuttack and one in Mumbai. Dengue and Chikungunya continue to wreak havoc in Bengal, Delhi, Bangalore and other parts of the country. 


The Death toll due to the two mosquito-borne diseases has now risen to 25 in the national capital with over 2,000 cases being reported. 

Efforts have been ramped up to treat the infected and prevent the spread of the illnesses in Delhi through combined efforts of the Centre, state and municipal authorities. 

Meanwhile Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain met Union Health Minister JP Nadda in Nirman Bhavan. Union Health Ministry has sought report of death history & full case history from Delhi Government. 

Health Minister J.P Nadda said avoid mosquito breeding by taking adequate precautions. He appealed to the people not to create panic and keep surroundings clean. 

Dengue cases have reached an alarming proportion in West Bengal with highest number of dengue deaths in the country so far. With 56 persons affected with dengue in Darjeeling district, out of which 11 persons are from the Darjeeling Hills. 

Siliguri Municipal Corporation has launched an intensive awareness campaign on dengue. Darjeeling district chief medical officer of health Asit Biswas said the number of dengue cases is higher in the district compared to last year. Over 100 cases of Dengue reported in Darjeeling & Siliguri districts.
