Parliament passes National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2016


Rajya Sabha on 1 August 2016 passed the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2016. Lok Sabha passed the bill on 21 July 2016. Now, the bill will be sent to the President for his assent. The Bill seeks to establish the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Andhra Pradesh as an institute of national importance under the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education
and Research (NITSER) Act, 2007.  The NIT will be deemed to have been an institute of national importance as on 20 August 2015. This is the day the central government approved its establishment.
The Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister of Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar, on 19 July 2016. For the current year, an amount of 40 crore rupees have been allocated for the establishment of the Institute.
