Kerala: VS Achuthanandan named ARC chief

The Kerala Cabinet Wednesday rehabilitated CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan as the chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission. The post with a Cabinet rank has been created to placate the senior leader, who stepped aside to let CM Pinarayi Vijayan lead the new LDF government after the recent state polls. The Assembly had recently passed the Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualifications)
Amendment Bill, 2006, to pave way for Achuthanandan to assume the position. Two former chief secretaries, Nila Gangadaran and C P Nair, would be members of the panel, which is the fourth in the history of Kerala. The commission will suggestions regarding improving the efficiency of governance.
Opposition has questioned the appointment saying the 92-year-old leader will not be able to make any creative contribution in the realm of administrative reforms.
