Gujarat has been adjudged the winner of the Best Film Promotion Friendly State Award 1st Prize, the State for Most Innovative Use of Information Technology – Social media / Mobile App Award and the Best State for Comprehensive Development of Tourism Award under the National Tourism Awards 2014-15. It is the third straight victory for the Gujarat under the Best Film Promotion Friendly State category while it has been
chosen as the joint winner for the Most Innovative Use of Information Technology category. Jayesh Radadia, Minister of State - Tourism, Gujarat, and N. Srivastava (IFS), Managing Director and Commissioner of Tourism, Gujarat Tourism were present at the function to receive the award while Kamleshbhai Patel, Chairman, Gujarat Tourism accompanied them. The National Tourism Awards 2014-15 function was held on July, 30, 2016, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. During 2015 the number of domestic tourist visits to states/ UTs in India was 1,432 million as compared to 1,282 million in 2014 registering a growth of 11.63% over 2014. During the same period Gujarat recorded 36.3 million domestic tourist visits and climbed to the 9th spot in the list of the most frequented states by domestic tourists in India. Commenting on this grand achievement of corporation, Srivastava, said, “We are very proud to have such a dedicated team and are confident that with their consistent effort, the organisation will continue to win many such accolades in the future as well.” He also congratulated all the citizens of Gujarat and thanked them for their warmth and hospitality.
The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is running a scheme under which National Tourism Awards are given to Travel Agents and Tour Operators including best Adventure Tour Operator, best Domestic Tour Operator, most Innovative Tour Operator, Best Mice Operator, Tourist Transport Operator, best Hotels in the different categories, outstanding performers in Publishing, etc. Awards are also given to the meritorious students of the institutes of Hotel Management and Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management. Gujarat Tourism is playing role of Nodal agency to develop film tourism in the state of Gujarat. TCGL has won the National Tourism Award for Best film friendly promotion state for 2013-14 as well.
