Former minister S.P. Sarguna Pandian passed away


Former Tamil Nadu social welfare minister and DMK deputy general secretary S P Sarguna Pandian passed away in the early hours of Saturday. She was 75.  Sarguna Pandian was elected from R K Nagar constituency twice — in 1989 and 1996 — and was the social welfare minister between 1996 and 2001 when DMK president M Karunanidhi was the chief minister. ”She had not been keeping well, and her end
came at 2am on Saturday. Her body is in her house at Royapuram, and cremation will take place around 5pm,” said a family member.
 Her daughter-in-law, Shimla Muthu Chozhan, contested against chief minister J Jayalalithaa in R K Nagar in the 2016 assembly election and lost.
