Writers Kusum Khemani, Veerendrakumar bag literary awards


Noted author Kusum Khemani and Malayalam writer M P Veerendrakumar have won the 'Kusumanjali Sahitya Samman 2016' in Hindi and Malayalam categories respectively. While Khemani was selected for her novel 'Lavanya Devi', Veerendrakumar, a Rajya Sabha member who is also the chairman of Kerala-based 'Mathrubhumi' group, was chosen for his travelogue 'Danube Sakshi', said a press release by
Kusumanjali Foundation today. Over the years, through her works, Khemani has brought out multiple aspects that governs the life of a woman. She has also been the Secretary of the Indian Language Society for the last 30 years.  Veerendrakumar, a recipient of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award, has been associated with the literary, cultural and political landscape of Kerala for the last six decades, the foundation said in a statement. The awards, established by noted author Dr Kusum Ansal in the year 2011, carry a cash purse of Rs 2.50 lakh, certificate and a plaque. The awards will be conferred on the winners on August 1 at India International Centre by Professor Lokesh Chandra, the President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
