Supreme Court gives green signal to Punjab Government's rural bus service


Chandigarh: The decision of Punjab Government to ply government buses in rural areas, which has no or nominal bus services, has got the nod from Hon’ble Supreme Court of India as the Hon’ble Court has dismissed both the cases filed by the Punjab Mini Bus Association against the decision of the state government. Disclosing this here today, Harmail Singh, State Transport Commissioner, Punjab said that
the Punjab Government had granted bus permits to Punjab Roadway, Punbus and PRTC for the convenience of general public of those areas where no bus service or nominal bus service is available presently. He said that the Punjab Mini Bus Association had filed application and Contempt Petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India against the grant of these permits. After this, the Secretary Transport has stopped the operations of these buses till the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in this regard. He said that the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has dismissed both the cases filed by the Punjab Mini Bus Association.
