New Delhi: Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group on Thursday named Juergen Hase as chief executive officer of its Internet of Things (IoT) business. Hase joins from Ooredoo, a telco in Qatar, where he was IoT/M2M (machine to machine) director at the group level. He will report to group managing director Amitabh Jhunjhunwala. Juergen has 25-year experience in the global telecommunication industry.
Before Ooredoo, he was with Deutsche Telekom (DT) as vice-president for over a decade. He is a graduate from Technical University, Germany with a major in telecommunications and is a member of various global M2M associations. Reliance Group wants to leverage domain expertise across telecom, power and utilities, transportation and financial services to create a fast-growing IoT business. Last year, Reliance Communications had announced an IoT partnership with Jasper Technologies, later taken over by Cisco Systems Inc. Reliance Energy is working on smart grid management to check transmission and distribution losses and lower energy bills. Another is by Reliance General Insurance for vehicle telematics to access the risk profile of vehicle insurance customers.
“Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for Remote Healthcare and Assisted Living and these (IoT pilot projects on healthcare, vehicle insurance, power management) are intended to be scaled up and made available for external customers under Juergen’s leadership,” the Reliance Group said in a statement.
Reliance Group companies have sued HT Media Ltd, Mint’s publisher, and nine others in the Bombay high court over a 2 October 2014 front-page story that they have disputed. HT Media is contesting the case.
