NGT directs Delhi RTO to ban all diesel vehicles over 10 years

NEW DELHI: National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed RTO DELHI to de-register all diesel vehicles which are more than ten years old. The order is meant to be implemented immediately. This comes at a time when Supreme Court has reserved its order on a petition by automaker against the 7-month old ban on diesel vehicles above 2000cc. The automakers in their petition had asked for big diesel vehicles to be
allowed again on payment of one percent of ex-showroom price as green cess. The recent call by NGT for banning of old diesel and petrol cars, if implemented, is expected to in-turn help increase the sales of automakers who have till now bore the brunt on the diesel ban.
