Nabam Tuki takes charge as Arunachal Pradesh CM

Nabam Tuki took charge as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister last night after the Supreme Court ordered the restoration of the state government as on 15th December 2015. Reports suggest Governor Rajkhova has given him time till Saturday to prove his majority. Meanwhile ousted Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul who claims the support of 47 MLAs said he would file a review petition against the 5 judge
supreme court judgement. The Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, on the other hand made it clear, on Wednesday that the Central government will abide by the verdict, and would come out with a structured response after studying the judgement.

The crisis in Arunachal Pradesh began when ousted chief minister Kalikho Pul and 29 Congress MLAs had merged with the Peoples Party of Arunachal.

With the defection, the Congress was reduced to 15 MLAs in the state, which has an effective strength of 58 in the Assembly, after the resignation of two Congress MLAs.

The numbers are therefore currently not in favour of the re-instated Nabam Tuki.
