Manchester City signs first eSports player to represent the club

One of the richest football clubs in the world is turning its attentions away from the international soccer transfer market and towards the burgeoning eSports scene instead. On Wednesday the club announced it had signed Kieran ‘Kez' Brown, an up-and-coming gaming star. He is set to be the first eSports person to represent Manchester City at eSports tournaments and fan events. "It's exciting; it's
something new for the Club and it's something new for me," said Brown. "I'm going to livestream on twitch, I'm going to be making videos for Manchester City's YouTube channel and I'm going to be playing some City fans and representing City in future tournaments, which I'm looking forward to. Explaining the logic behind the decision -- Manchester City is usually the sort of soccer club chasing signings like Paul Pogba -- Diego Gigliani, SVP, Media and Innovation, City Football Marketing, said: "As eSports continues to gain momentum, it makes sense for our Club to be part of the action...We will be a bigger presence at gaming tournaments, we will have more content through our digital channels and we will activate even more with our fans at matches and Club events."
