Flood havoc in Assam and Madhya Pradesh

In flood-affected Assam and Madhya Pradesh, the situation continues to be grim. The army has been pressed into service in Assam on Friday to rescue flood hit people in Jorhat district. Severe land erosion has been reported in a few places including river island Majuli. More than 70% area of the ‪#Kaziranga‬ National Park is inundated in flood water. Nearly 48,000 people have been affected in Jorhat district

where four relief camps have been set up. Four medical teams have also been deployed in Jorhat district. Relief materials are being distributed in affected areas. While situation in Lakhimpur slightly improved on Friday, more than 48,000 people are affected in Jorhat due to breach of embankment in Bhogdoi river. More than a thousand people have taken shelter at 7 relief camps. The rescue and relief measures have been taken in Jorhat and Guwahati.In Madhya Pradesh, 12 people have been killed in rain related incidents. Bhopal, Raisen, Vidisha, Hoshangbad, Sehore and Betul district are facing flood-like situation after last night's torrential rains. Most of the major and minor rivers including Narmada, Betwa, Barna are in spate. Narmada is near danger mark at Hoshangabad and Nemawar.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the situation at a meeting held in Bhopal on Saturday.. He said that the situation is under control. He has instructed ministers to be present in their respective areas to monitor the situation. The state government has issued an emergency help line number 1079 for any kind of assistance. 

Relief camps have been set up in government schools for affected people. Chief Minister Chouhan visited some affected areas to take stock of the situation in Bhopal.
