Fate of 21 AAP legislators hang in balance

Fate of 21 AAP legislators hang in balance The fate of the 21 Parliamentary secretaries and their membership to the Delhi assembly continues to hang in balance. The Election Commission will hear the matter on July 21. BJP and Congress leaders met the EC and placed their concerns on the issue before the poll body on Thursday. While the Congress's Ajay Maken placed some new facts before the EC, Delhi BJP
President Satish Upadhyay said these MLAs should not only dismissed, but criminal proceedings should be initiated against them. Congress Party sought answers from the Aam Admi Party on new facts it presented to the Commission.

The Commission has asked all 21 MLAs to be present before it on July 21.

The commission is hearing the case whether the 21 AAP MLAs appointed as parliamentary secretaries comes under the Office of Profit or not.

The MLAs have to explain why they think their appointments don't come under "office of profit" and why they should not be dismissed as MLAs.

Arvind Kejriwal government in March last year appointed 21 Parliamentary Secretaries, which was challenged by a lawyer.

The Delhi assembly then passed a bill to amend the rules of Office of Profit to accommodate the MLAs.

However, it was rejected by the President.

The AAP government health minister Satyendra Jain's daughter Soumya is also facing controversy.

Soumya was made adviser to a Mohalla Clinic project of the Delhi government. But due to opposition accusing him of nepotism Soumya had to resign on Wednesday.

Jain had argued that Soumya was not taking a single rupee from the government for the project.

The opposition argued that by being Health Minister itself, such an appointment was taking advantage of his position.

They say that the AAP which stood against dynasty politics was itself becoming a victim of dynastic nepotism.
