Davis Cup: India beat South Korea 4-1

India have beaten South Korea 4-1 in the Davis Cup Asia Oceanic Group 1 tie in Chandigarh to move into the World Group Playoffs next year. After taking a 3 nil lead on saturday, the last reverse singles match saw a change in fortune for the visitors. Ramkumar Ramanathan failed to get going in the final dead rubber and against Seong Chan Hong to lose the final set in the tie-breaker. Seong helped South Korea get a point in the
board with a 7-6 scoreline. Earlier, paying his first Davis Cup singles match in four years, Rohan Bopanna saved himself from embarrassment as he edged past Hong Chung in the dead fourth rubber outing. Rohan wins an inconsequential match against Korea's Hong Chung 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. the Indian doubles ace replaced Saketh Myneni in the first reverse singles on Sunday. Myneni had not recovered fully from his draining match on Friday which had seen both players succumbing to severe cramping. On the face of it, Bopanna does not even have a singles ranking while his Korean opponent Hong Chung is 665 in the world. But given his huge serve and that grass is his favourite surface, it was not imprudent to expect the world number 14 doubles player to prevail. The 4-1 win helps India get into the World Group playoffs for next year in the Davis Cup.
