BJP expels Dayashankar from party for remarks against Mayawati

Sending out a clear message that it won't tolerate irresponsible conduct of its party functionaries, Bhartiya Janta Party has expelled its Uttar Pradesh unit vice president Dayashankar Singh from the party. BJP state President sacked him from the party, hours after he announced that Singh had been relieved from all organisational responsibilities. Expulsion from the party will remain in force for six years in line with the
party's rules. Earlier in the day, the issue was raised in Rajya Sabha where Dayashankar's remarks drew all-round flak and there were demands for action against him too. Expressing regret over Dayashankar's conduct, Leader of the House Arun Jaitley said that all women should be respected. In response to statements by Arun Jaitley and leaders across the political spectrum condemning Dayashankar's remarks, Mayawati expressed her gratitude. Dayashankar landed in controversy with objectionable remarks against Mayawati in Mau. When the row over his remarks escalated, he tendered an apology. Meanwhile UP police have lodged an FIR against Dayashankar Singh under the SC/ST Act for his derogatory remarks.
