BCCI gets High Court notice for noise pollution

The Bombay High Court on Monday issued notices to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Maharashtra Cricket Association seeking their response on a PIL alleging violation of noise pollution norms during IPL matches. The petition was filed by advocate Kapil Soni in 2014 alleging that noise pollution norms and regulations were violated during the IPL matches held in 2013 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium
and Pune’s Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, and legal action should be initiated against BCCI and MCA. The petition also demanded that a heavy penalty be imposed.

A division bench of Justices A.S. Oka and A.A. Sayed issued notices to BCCI and MCA, and posted it for further hearing on September 16.

As per the petition, during the IPL in 2013, the matches held in Pune and Mumbai began at 8 p.m. and went on till midnight, including the prize distribution ceremony.

“Loudspeakers were being used and loud music was being played during the matches,” the petition claimed.
