Amul Dairy bags Golden Peacock Award for ecological innovation


VADODARA: The Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited popularly known as Amul Dairy has been conferred the Golden Peacock Award for ecologically innovation and sustainable energy conservation. The award recognizes Amul Dairy's efforts in establishing sustainable energy management system adopted in recovery of methane gas from the dairy effluents, converting it into
CNG and using it as fuel in its boilers. The Golden Peacock Awards are established by Golden Peacock Awards Secretariat, the institute of directors, New Delhi, an apex society of 31 directors that recognizing organizations who make excellence in the field of environment conservation and adopt the innovative ideas in to practice and save energy for the betterment of society.
The award was conferred upon Amul Dairy by Piyush Goel, minister for power, coal and mines of government of India during the 18th World Congress on Environment Management at New Delhi.
"Amul Dairy is the first one to introduce the technology to generate the renewable energy which is very economical and we are saving more than Rs two crore a year. This also reduces environmental pollution and saves in carbon emissions," said Amul Dairy's managing director Dr K Rathnam.
